On an outing this weekend with friends, we (being poor college students or the even more pathetic resource-wise recent college grads) needed a place to go after meandering through old town. Of course the usual consensus is a cafe in MPK. Here is where I'm sure a lot of us get confused. There are easily a dozen or so called cafes open till 4 in the morning serving much or less the same menu ( 6 dollar fillet mignon, 15dollar dinner specials, etc). Note of warningservice is different here, you have to ask the server for what you want and be patient. No they won't read your mind here so please get the guys to wave your hand and point to your empty glass of water.

Consistently popular for cheap tasty dishes (Avoid the con gee and thai iced tea). Ask the server for what's good since they're refreshingly candid and tell you what to avoid.
220 N. Atlantic Blvd. Monterey Park, CA626.282.0238
The cheapest place anywhere for breakfast. Please don't tell everyone about it and keep it on the low down since I do enjoy being full after a four dollar meal of fresh fluffy pancakes, omelettes, and unlimited coffee. Their chinese style breakfast is good as well. Try being difficult and asking for eggwhites only. This'll be the only place around where they charge you only 50 cents more and you can taste the freshness of the egg.

I eat here too often. The menu is consistent here except for the vermicelli soup with fish balls. I'm guessing since it's not that popular of a dish, the fish balls tasted quite...fishy. Besides that, go for the sizzling steak and get spaghetti with ketchup dolloped on it. If you're jonseing for some dessery, drop by next door to the boba store and get a green tea matcha icy. Yum.

avoid at all cost. It's a dirty spoon without good food.
We ended up going to
512 W. Valley Blvd. San Gabriel 91776 626-457-8898
Where they have an excessive amount of Lobster dishes. Anyone tried them? We didn't try that but everyone liked what they ordered (I think the crowd favorite was the sizzling noodles and red bean icy drink). Our total (not including tip for 8 peole was 72)
There's plenty more so I'd love to hear your picks.
