The restaurant Vinci has been doing a Tuscan-style pig-roast barbecue every Sunday this summer. The last day is this Labor Day Sunday from noon-9:30 PM.
I had no idea what Tuscan-style pig roast would taste like, but anytime I see roast pig, it generally holds my attention.
Got together w/a group of people last night at Vinci to try it.
Besides the regular menu (which I know nothing about) they also had the Tuscan Bar-B-Q Menu.
The two items the whole group ordered were the:
Baby back ribs w/honey balsamic marinade and the roast pig w/rosemary and natural juices. (ribs 17.95, roast pig 16.95)
I have a belief that pork is such a luscious meat on its own that it does not need to be dressed up. The baby back ribs kind of re-enforced this belief. The marinade was good, but would have been incredible on say chicken. On the ribs, it was overkill.
The roast pig was some of the most heavenly pork I have tasted anywhere/anytime. Just incredible. The rosemary was just a hint, not strong whatsoever.
Also offered on the BBQ menu are: roast sausage, grilled ½ chicken, roast fish.
One chooses an entrée then chooses from sides such as: tomato, mozzerella, and onion salad, roasted garlic whipped potatoes, sauteed escarole w/ garlic.
If you are looking for a restaurant this coming Labor Day in Chicago, I highly recommend try the Tuscan BBQ at Vinci.
