Turkish American Deli - Deerfield

This little place in a strip mall on Federal is, as the name suggests, mostly a deli. They have fresh Turkish cheeses and yogurt, loose olives, a deli counter with a variety of Turkish salads and some baked goods, and shelves of Turkish dry goods (including nuts, sweets, and sauces). It isn't a big place, but if you like to cook Turkish food, it's worth a trip.

In the back is a bizarre little restaurant with a Turkish-only menu. They have a huge t.v. - always showing soccer - and several guys who are always there watching it. If you sit down, a nice man will tell you what they have to eat. It seems to be mostly a breakfast place - when I've been in the afternoon, they invariably have nothing but a meatball sandwich (that's my English translation). It is moist meatballs and a subtly spicy red sauce on chewy bread, and very good, but I prefer a tiny bit more selection. I'll try to go back earlier and report back, but from the little I've had, it seems like an interesting find in the Deerfield area.
