Turkey Legs

chispa_c | May 26, 2010 11:44 AM

I just bought a turkey leg from Whole Foods on Lamar. The bar-b-que venue is smoking turkey legs/thighs and selling them for $2.99/lb. The one i bought was $2.09.

I usually buy turkey legs from HEB in Allandale when I'm lucky enough to find them. As a comparison I'd say that although the HEB legs are more 'slide off the bone tender' the Whole Foods legs are fully of incredible smoky flavor. If Whole Foods would keep the legs wrapped in foil/paper/plastic wrap, like HEB, I think the legs would be just as moist. However, the leg I purchased was just out of the smoker and it was fantastic.

The guy working the counter said they are selling very well. He said he thought the thighs were more tender and they don't have tendons like the legs do. I didn't see any thighs out at the time.

A good price for a solid lunch of lean meat.
