Just got back from a business trip in Tucson and wanted to thank the chowhounds on the board for some great tips!
Had dinner at Barrio Food and Drink. It was faboo! A beautiful room and friendly servers. We started out with jerk tiger shrimp appetizer on a pineapple salsa that was wonderfully flavourous! This was accompanied by some wonderful margaritas -- just Hornitos, lime juice and Cointreau! Yay! And that's the house -- you don't have to beg them to leave the sweet and sour out! We had ribs -- huge slab that we split, plus a salad with blackened ono (the fish of the day). Our friend had a massive, meltingly tender jerk pork chop. We were too full for dessert as the portions were huge. BTW another group had dinner at Cafe Poca Cosa across the street -- we had gone there last year at this event and liked it quite a bit. However, this year the "buzz" was that it was OK but overpriced -- lots of lettuce on the plates! Plus it was a large group and the mandatory added tip was almost 30 percent! Rip off!!!!!
On the way out of town, we stopped at El Minuto for an early supper. Great basic Sonoran Mexican. I had the carne asada tacos -- three little babies with a tasty pico de gallo and creamy refried beans. Ole! My friend's cheese enchiladas disappeared at a rapid rate and my other buddy's chile and bean quesadilla was a tasty bite. Nice friendly fast service, too! Happy campers!
