Truth in Advertising - BBQ Restaurants

I was thinking about this dilema as I was reviewing a local eatery by the name of Johnny Rebs; if they don't use smoke or a bbq, can a restaurant really be considered BBQ?

There is a reviewer (who does a great job, btw) who went out in search of the best "beef rib" bbq in the area. What was interesting was some of the chosen best by this reviewer and others weren't food items that ever saw an open flame, smoke or a bbq pit.

So, that said, can a restaurant that claims to have "bbq" but doesn't actually cook in a fashion anywhere close to the style actually be considered BBQ? Or instead, is it some other animal along the lines Korean sushi or Latin pho?
