For True Taco Lovers Only -- Taqueria LA Cabana

Think of your favorite real deal Taco Truck. A small place hidden around a corner that makes so many good things. That is the image of Taqueria LA Cabana which is very hidden within a resendital community and almost under the 10 fry. The tacos at Taqueria LA Cabana are made with those two small corn tortillas topped with meat, chopped cilantro, onion and a good green salsa. The fish taco comes with the white sauce on the side. All these tacos are only $1 -- every day. Although the tacos are small there is a large amount of meat piled on. The Asada is better than average but I find several other tacos on the menu to be extremely good.

I have ordered the Lengua tacos several times and it has always been tender and flavorful. The meat is cut into small cubes that require no chew as they almost melt when you start to eat them.

The Carnitas is a high quality pork with plenty of flavor, no fat, and no grease. It almost looks like chicken.

The Pollo (chicken) is outstanding. White meat only, forked apart into small, tender, succulent bites of pleasure. I get at least one every time I go. I had a chicken burrito the other day and asked for no beans. The rice inside that burrito was very good also.

The al pastor is also a must try. This taco is so satisfying. The meat is tender and the flavor is not overpowering but rather more toward mild. I could not stop eating it and wanted more. I could not believe this perfect taco was only a dollar. IMO, King Taco is not nearly as good.

I had one Fish taco. It was a good amount of fish, fresh with no fishy taste, and no batter.

Cabeza, this meat was not as tender as it could have been but I am not a big fan of cabeza.

Sesos. This seems to be one of those things you have to grow up having to be able to understand what it is all about. When I was a kid I never had any brains. In fact, I never had brains until I had these several days ago when I had them and ate them too. Therefore I really am unable to offer any thoughts about brains or to even offer any knowledgeable conclusion of whether they were good or bad. I can say my brains were tender and, for some reason, the words “ORGAN MEAT” screamed out loud in my head on the second chew and echoed back-and-forth in my skull with each chew that followed. Anyway, if you grew up having lots of brains I would really like you to try these and to hear what you THINK of them. Let me know whether I had good brains, and what makes them so good, or whether I had abnormal brains.

The other tacos on the menu include Buche, Jaiva, shrimp and on Sat. and Sun. they make Tacos de Tripas (intestines) and Tacos de Barbacoa (like a Hot Chili)

All the meats on the menu are also offered in a burrito, torta or sope. The torta’s are filled with cabbage, tomato and lots of avocado.
