My wife and I (mid-30's) are going to be visiting from LA in late December,
I am obsessed with food (and thus this search) but desperately want to do something other than hunt down restaurants for the next 5 weeks (!). I love simple, country cooking that allows the natural flavors to sing (Zuni, Chez Panisse) and I also love everything from Foie Gras to...? I was originally looking at places like Fifth Floor, Masa's, but upon checking out their web sites they seem a bit... er, stiff for my taste. Ideally we want a place with warmth and terrific/attentive food and genuine service.
Any of the places I mentioned are possibilities but please help! Thanks so much...
We will be staying, I think, at the Maxwell Hotel though we will have a car and are happy to drive but nonetheless would probably like to stay in SF (rather than going to the East Bay, for instance).
