My trip to Seattle and Victoria

I just returned from a trip to Seattle and Victoria and
had some very good meals.

In Seattle: Campagne, at the Inn at the Market (where
we stayed) was a treat. Good French food, very nicely
presented and served. Not cheap, but worth it.

Place Pigalle, in the Pike Street Market. Not quite as
good as Campagne, but not quite at expensive either.
But very worthwhile.

Painted Table, in the Alexis Hotel. Last meal in
Seattle, and well worth the price. "Modern" food,
beautifully presented, and using all sorts of good
fresh ingredients. My only complaint is that it is too
dark. I really couldn't see the color of the food,
unless I moved the table's candle close to the food.

Shanghai Garden in the International district. Have
their shaved noodles. I don't know how they are made,
but they are good. It's been a long time since I have
had Shanghai cooking, and it's a very nice cuisine.

In Port Townsend we ate at a place whose name I forget,
but it lists itself as the only surviving waterfront
restaurnat from old days. Don't waste your time or
money their. A lovely setting on the water, and
mediocre food. However, stop by Elevated Ice Cream in
PT. Very good ice cream.

In Victoria we had three dinners. Pescatore's, on
Humbolt Street, across from the Empress Hotel is a real
treat. My wife and I both had arctic char (first
time) and loved it. I also had some superb oysters.
I only regret that I ordered only a half dozen. For
good oysters more is always better.

We went to the highly recommended Sooke Harbour House.
A good meal, but I don't think that it is truly
outstanding. There was a mixup in the serving that
allowed my to get my appetizer from free, which was
nice. The food was very good, but not memorable. I
was particularly disappointed with the sorbet for
dessert. Practically no flavor. I don't think it is
worth the longish drive out to Sooke from Victoria.

One evening we ate at the James Bay Inn. We did that
because of location, not because of food. And the food
was OK, but just barely.
