I'd like to share some thoughts about the food I ate this past week in NYC.
Keen's: What a great atmosphere! Warm and historic. Had the mutton chop, spinach, and hash browns. Sooooo good.
Cafe Sabarsky: One of the most beautiful dining rooms in the city. Sad to say my ($30) wiener schniztel was mushy, not crisp, and the breading fell off the meat. Also brought to table suspiciously fast. Linzertorte, though, was absolutely outstanding!
Bemelman's Bar: best martini of the trip! Nice free bar snacks.
Waverly Inn: Cozy with an open fireplace. Excellent cocktails and chicken pot pie.
Viand: Upper East Side diner. Didn't know places like this still exist. Had a turkey sandwich and sn egg cream. Saw Ina Garten's Jeffrey there!
Cocktails & Oysters
Mermaid Oyster Bar: $1 oysters, $7 cocktails. Nuff said.
Via Brasil: Fabulous feijoada. But restaurant was empty. Tacky music. Probably a lot more fun when full.
JG Melon: One of my favorite places on earth. Seriously.
Odeon: Had the excellent duck. Lots of people having fun. Champagne flowing.
The Smile: Got the Salty Dog and the Kale Salad with chicken. Both were outstanding. Other diners apparantly lunching with their literary/ theatrical agents. Felt like Ma Kettle.
City Bakery: Pretzel croissant and hot chocolate with housemade marshmallow. OMFG
Raoul's: Ain't nothin but a party y'all. Outstanding Steak au Poivre. So good! So fun!
Parm: Friendly, great sandwiches.
Wallse: The only bummer of the trip. Silly, pompous waiters and maitre d. Food was bland, not as good as it should have been at those prices. We left before dessert.
Barney Greengrass: Sorry, Russ & Daughters got nothing on BGG. Nova melts in the mouth.
That's it. Already plotting my return AND where to eat next time. What did I leave out?
