Trip Report- Thanks CH SF!

I used this board to do extensive research before heading to SF for Memorial Day weekend and wow- was it ever worth it. We arrived on Saturday morning and proceeded to eat our way through the Ferry Terminal. The chocolate brownie cookies with sea salt from Boulette's Larder were so good that I can still close my eyes and taste them.

We were staying at the W in SOMA, so one of the criteria in my dinner choices was proximity. Saturday night we hit LuLu's first for wine flights and the iron skillet roasted mussels- amazing. Then, we went over to Azie where I ordered a Bellini made with fresh mango puree. I couldn't stop smiling while I was drinking it. We started with the trio of tartare- the standout was the scallop tartare which my husband actually proclaimed was one of the best things he has ever eaten. He had the Azie version of Peking Duck and I had the butterfish with edamame and forest mushrooms. The butterfish was rich and satisfying, but the pureed butternut squash that accompanied it was boring and flavorless. The duck was crispy and delicious, without being overly greasy. The only disappoinment about Azie was how quiet it was. We were one of only three or four tables upstairs and we were there from 8-10pm- it never got any busier. I would attribute this to the holiday weekend, but LuLu's was rocking right next door.

Sunday night we went to Ame and had one of the best meals and some of the best service I have ever had. We were worried that our server wouldn't be happy that we were too focused on the sashimi to make it to the more expensive right side of the menu, but he was a total pro. He suggested sake for us (we were not familiar with ordering cold sakes, but he walked us through the process and made perfect suggestions). We had the tuna and avacado tartare with shaved foie gras, the hamachi sashimi with ponzu, the sea bream crudo, and a lightly fried soft shell crab on mixed greens. I couldn't pick a favorite. For dessert, we had a the rhubarb pie with strawberry ice cream and strawberry salad. The pie was so warm, flakey, buttery, and perfect with the ice cream that we were fighting over the last bites.

Before we got on our plane on Monday, we stopped at Kara's cupcakes- what a way to top off the weekend! So thaks to all of you CH posters for making our SF weekend so tasty!
