Just back from italy. Thanks to all for suggestions. Following is a brief report on restaurant experiences
Bologna--most restaurants closed in August so went to Battibecco twice and enjoyed risotto with chianti and fagioli, seabass, swordfish and a good bottle
Colli Bolognese sauvignon blanc
Canneto sull'Oglio--Dal Pescatore was wonderful--attentive service, beautiful surroundings, and delicious food and wine
Imola--lunch at San
Domenico was divine and we took advantage of a 40 Euro lunch including wines
Verona--Al Pompiere was filled with locals and food was great and reasonable.
Tre Marchetti--great orata and not any Americans
Dodici Apostoli was beauiful, a little touristy but good turbo, branzino, Soave Classico St. Vincent
Ended the trip at Villa Serbolloni eating dinner overlooking Lake Como.
