My wife and I were hoping to get to Jazz fest but Sat & Sun the ran came down fast and furious. ( we did get to see those pumps in action in Algiers) On the way in from the Airport on Fri we stopped at Morning Call for Cafe AuLait and Beignets. We unpacked (at our friends house) and went to Bourbon House. Good food, chowed down on lots of Oysters , wonderful atmosphere. Walked the streets for a while and popped in and out of bars and stopped by Mr. B's for a quick bloody Mary before calling it a night.
Sat Domilise's for Po-boys, we swapped halves of Roast Beef and Shrimp. Yum !
While walking around, some guys were doing a boil in front of some rinky-dink bar called 3 Brothers. They said come back in a few minutes for a taste so we went to Sucre and had some sweets and then went back and had some beers and crawfish boil. More Yum !! And they didn't want money for the crawfish. It started to rain and soon monsoon and we had to cancel our reservations for K-Pauls and went to Clementines Belgian Bistrot. Great deserts !
Sun had Jazz brunch at Mr. B's Gumbo Ya-Ya and Fried Chicken livers were the hits of the meal, plus the Jazz and atmosphere were fantastic. Stopped by Pat O'Briens for drinks. Once again the skies opened up so we ducked into Muriel's for coffee and desert. Not impressed and also a snotty bartender made me not want to go back if the deserts were a reflection of the meals.
Dinner was Crescent City Steak House. I usually don't go for steak but I have to admit. Just fantastic steaks. A lot to be said for good simple food.
We left for a cruise on Monday morning and when we returned the following Sat we went shopping at Dorignacs for take home spices. Nothing like having shots of Tequila in aisle 10 while shopping at 11:30. Went to Mandinas for Lunch, my wife was craving fried chicken and I had Crab Meuniere. Big thumbs up. My whole take on NOLA that some of my best meals were at low priced places. Like all towns, if you know where your going, you can eat well on the cheap.
I'm almost thankful to be back home to give my palate a rest but will be looking forward for my next visit. !
