OK, so I am a Seattleite who was in SF this past weekend. After a whole day of hiking through your beautiful city and almost being torn by the cold wind I did not expect, I finally found some warmth at Thirsty Bear on Howard St. While the hot tapas (my choice was all seafood: shrimp, crab dip, calamari) were all delicious, my heart was most struck by the dessert churros con chocolate (reason #1 for coming to the place to begin with). I WAS FLOORED! This was my first taste of churros, and they were perfect: caramel colored, with just enough cinammon and sugar. But the chocolate dipping sauce was the icing on the proverbial cake :) to die for.
As soon as I returned to Seattle, I posted on the PacNW board to see if anything here comes close to Thirsty Bear. I am responding to a request to disclose the name of the place here, and would like to ask anyone if you know of either a) a location in the Seattle area where I could have these (I am willing to check out any neighborhood, unless I need a gun to get there, and even then I will consider it), or b)if there is a reasonably simple way of making these at home (esp. the sauce!).
Many thanks, and for those of you who haven't yet, please enjoy the churros at Thirsty Bear. I hope to go there again soon. That is just one of the many reasons I fell in lust with your city!
