Help! Out of towners, West Side dinner options

3 friends from different parts of the country are coming - we've never all met together before, and I need to make reservations for dinner for Friday night. (One of the friends and I are eating at Nice Matin on Thursday, so that's out)

Ambience: fun, but someplace where we can talk.

Location: either West Side (two are staying on the UWS) or possibly Soho (where we might be that afternoon) - I don't think we'll end up in Museum land, so not the UES. Relatively flexible on how far 'down' West Side might be (eg, 50s). Re: SoHo, I was almost thinking L'Ecole, if I can get in.

Price: Moderate to moderate plus. (New York sticker shock & all)

Food: Great tasting food, good wine with 'healthy' options (eg, grilled fish etc.) Different cuisines are fine.

I have searched NYTimes, NYmag, etc., but to no avail...Really, I figured you guys are the place to go.

Thank you!!
