I'm not very good at planning in advance, so the only seats left at Town Mouse were at the bar, and I have to say, those are some uncomfortable seats. I've eaten at the bar at Cumulus and it was a lot more comfy. At Town Mouse you interact mostly w the bartender while sitting at the bar, and that was enjoyable. It is funny a bit that they get the pottery so right, but the seats so wrong. I guess they are trying to fit the most in.
Anyway, we enjoyed the entrees a lot - duck parfait, goat cheese profiterole and my favorite, milk curd with fried bread. I also loved the corn dish that came w creme fraiche and freeze dried citrus. We had the corn dish w pork jowl, which was good as was the black angus intercoastals. We moved outside out front to a bench table for dessert - a lot more comfortable for me - and had lime posset and ice cream - both were good.
I enjoyed our dinner, but probably won't rush back.
Pei Modern - it was easy to get bookings, but when we first arrived I thought it didn't seem very fancy - the napkins/tables etc - but I was really quite impressed by the food. We had almond gazpacho w pickled clams - wow - I was ready to lick the bowl. We also had kohlrabi w smoked beef - beautiful creative plating and very tasty (we need to buy a mandoline, this is a great way to eat kohlrabi).
We had the Dobson's chips, definitely better than your average chips, very crunchy bits, we didn't finish them because we wanted to save room, but I thought they were worth ordering. We had ricotta dumplings, which I did not love, and we had the casarecce pasta, which is a hearty dish w chicken hearts and liver bits and sort of says winter dish to me, it was good, but did not rock my world.
What did rock my world was the desserts - sorrell ice cream!! it was SO good, and a custard w toffee on top - sounds ordinary, but was really really good.
