old town - Casa de Bandini

I know a lot of hounds poo-poo Diane Power's resturants in Old Town. Yes the food is not the greatest and yes it is touristy, but I have always enjoyed Bandini. The ambiance, the margeritas, the marachais have made it a fun place to have a meal. The food is sure a cut above chain mex places. I was one of the people that was deeply hurt when the state Dept. of Parks decided to go with a different vendor for the restaurant consession in Old Town. This same firm is providing the food service at Petco Park and by the quality of the food there, I fear for Old Town. I mean if they cannot get a hot dog right, can I expect them to do any better with a full size restaurant, let alone the four restaurants that they will be running in Old Town. I was then happy to hear that Bandini is moving to La Mesa. They are taking over the space where Chevy's used to be in Grossmont Center and they will be opening in the spring. I know it is not the ambiance of Old Town but it will have to do until the old police station is converted at Seaport Village
