Toronto's New Pantry

The Pantry just opened on College St West near Dovercourt and it's the perfect place to pick up some slow cooked food for diner. As far as I can figure it's like your extended kitchen, they spend all day making great healthy home cooked food and you don't have to go to Whole Foods to get decent take out. Plus it's nice to support some local folks.

The other night we had the short rib in Tunisian spiced and it was pretty much heaven. Each bit melted in your mouth and the subtle north African spices were a nice change from the standard stew.

I have to say there was a bit of sticker shock when we got the bill, (2 4oz pieces ran about $14) but when we were enjoying them in the garden as the sun set with a delicious cab from the newly opened Southbrook Winery in Niagara we were the thriftiest of eaters at the most exclusive table in town.

They also have excellent espresso's and the like.

Here is an article from Toronto Live recently.
