for a brunch next sunday i think i will be making this cake:

but i don't want to do the meringue topping. blech. nor do i want anything chocolate.

i have some thoughts, but what would you do instead? i am in new england so fresh berries are a pipe dream.

rest of menu still in-progress, but so far it will be a main course of basteeya, with carrot/chickpea/sumac fritters and minted pea and pecorino salad.

we will be either 6 or 8 so i will be scaling down the cake recipe accordingly.
