It was our annual birthday/Father's Day gathering and this year we brought it to Tony's DiNapoli on 3rd & 64th. We were 8 all together and we had a reservations at 5:30 p.m. It took about a half hour to be seated, this place is always busy, but we scored a wonderful semi-private table that turned out to be the domain of a very good waiter.
We ordered with abandon, everyone picked a favorite dish, some family-style, some half orders: Calamari Fritti, Caesar Salad, Tri Colore Salad, Spaghetti with Meatballs, Penne a la Vodka, Chicken Parmigiana, Shrimp Francese, and sides of sautéed broccoli and spinach. I ordered a bottle of Rutherford Hill Merlot for the drinkers in the group. We passed around those big platters and ate heartily. There was not a clinker on the table. It was all good. A feast of Southern Italian-American red sauce that satiated all our cravings. Some of us got to take home leftovers, too.
We have been to Tony's at more unruly times, but on this occasion I must compliment our waiter Jon and his staff. www.tonysnyc.com
