I have noticed that I suddenly have an army of friends and family who hate tomatoes. It seems like I'm always meeting someone who won't touch the things. All of these people will happily eat tomato products (such as tomato sauce, salsa, ketchup)--they just won't eat a raw or whole tomato.

Is this because of the dismal quality of supermarket 'maters, or perhaps the fact that restaurants continue to serve tomatoes in the winter? Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? Sadly, I don't believe those in my tomato-hating circle would allow themselves to be converted by a delicious home-grown summer tomato.
