I've been looking for recipes for pink/red cakes for a Valentine's Day party (not red velvet), and I came across one for "Tomato Soup or Mystery Cake" in Joy of Cooking. It looks like it would be a not-too spice cake, but I'm not sure. Even though it's apparently a bit of a retro classic, I'm reluctant to make it for a party without knowing more about the results.
So, has anyone ever made tomato soup cake?
Or do you know of another red/pink (non-red velvet) cake that doesn't get its color from food dye?
