Tocqueville, The Modern (Bar Room), what else??

Hey guys,

Among the restaurants that I've tried, I've found Tocquiville and The Modern (Bar Room) to be amazing. What are some similar places in the same (or lesser) price range that I should try. I know that comparing Tocquiville and The Modern is a little hard since the former is relatively more classic and the latter is more out of the box / whimsical but both use French techniques (albeit, in different ways) and I guess that is what I'm looking for. I actually would give The Modern slightly higher points for food but of course Tocquiville wins on the ambiance front. Any borough is fine but Manhattan would be great.

I know that NYC does Italian very well but for this discussion, no Italian (I've been to Scarpetta and I guess should check out Babbo). Also since, we're talking about a medium price range here so no Bouley, Picholine, EMP, etc :-)

Some places that I was considering were:

1, Veritas - How is it without Grégory Pugin?
2. Aldea - This is not exactly French inspired but since the one time that I had Portuguese food (Ferreira Cafe in Montreal), I thought it was awesome, I have it here.
3. Public - I had attended an event here and thought that the food (which was off menu) was pretty good
4. La Grenouille
6. Degustation
5. Bolud Cafe - I so want to try Gavin Kaysen's food or Bolud Sud. Not sure if both of these would be stretching it price wise

What do people think about the above and what are some other places that can be added to this list?
Thanks a lot!!
