Tips for a charitable dinner?

martykukla | May 20, 2011 06:02 AM

We received, through a silent auction, a catered dinner / wine pairing for ten prepared at our home by a well known local restauranteur / chef. The package was valued at $1200.
The chef/restaurant owner will arrive at our home with two assistants. We feel that even though this was a donation, tips are in order. Our thoughts are monetary amounts for his assistants based on normal tipping rates, and a fine bottle of Port Wine to show our gratitude to the chef.
Would this be appropriate?
