When I was growing up, a standard "good tip" at a white table cloth restaurant was 15%. Now, and I'm as dutiful as most other posters here seem to be, it's risen to 20%.
Does anyone know when, where, and why this happened? Is 15% no longer considered acceptable? Am I simply living in inflated NYC, where 20% is now apparently the norm, while the rest of the country continues to tip 15%?
