my lunch from the other day was pretty darn good.
went to phillip's for a bbq fix, beef ribs with hot sauce lunch and a nice chicken hot link to boot. tremendous beef ribs as usual. great good stuff, some a little tender, some a little chewier and with that sauce pure heaven. this was at the adams and crenshaw location, which i believe to be the superior location now, the best beef ribs have all been from here, just the right amount of beefiness and tenderness to the right amount of wood smoke, great stuff. the chicken links though are not as great as the beef hot links, i think i much prefer those chicken apple sausages or lemon chicken or chicken andouille's around town, than these links. yet, polished off all these stuff with a coke and the side of potatoer salad, and scoopoed up all the extra sauce with the two sllices of white bread.
was still a little hungry and still had some time to kill so made a little trip right afterwards to Uncle Moki's on La Cienega and Rodeo for some of their famous hawaiian shrimp scampi. interesting little, tiny, tiny place towards the very back of this mini-mall, a little hard to find, except for the little sign touting shrimp at the beginning of the mini-mall.
anyways, order up the original hawaiian scampi, which arrived with five shrimp, which were sauteed or sort of pan fried in garlic, olived oil, and spices. pretty good not exceptional though i do prefer cajun bbq shrimp but that is another matter altoghether, and it also arrived with some garlic and sauce doused rice, pretty darn good, about a perfect ice-cream scooped shape of rice. oh, and a mint arrived with it along with a slice of orange, slice of lemon, and a slice of pineapple, and a wet nap. the place is truly probably the size of one of those actual hawaiian shrimp trucks off the coast of honolulu or maui, but i can not say it tastes the same since i've never had the real deal at giovann i's or whatever the famous truck stops are called. worth a visit, and i'll probably be back for the spicey version which you need to sign a waever for, although they'are probably being quite facetious.
anyways, a pretty good, too part lunch, with the phillip's portion being quite exceptional as usual.
