My girlfriend and I will be in Montreal for three days (Saturday afternoon-Monday afternoon) and I'm wondering what the must-eat places are. I was in Montreal in February a few years back and remember very little because it was too cold to be outside for more than five minutes!
We're renting an apartment in Old Montreal near the Palais de Justice which has a kitchen. I speak enough food-centric French to manage but my experience last time was that everyone spoke English perfectly well.
Food festivals? Bakeries for breakfast? Restaurants for dinner? Wine bars? Any shops selling particularly amazing things I must eat or bring back (that customs won't take)? No dietary restrictions, though I think my girlfriend would love a good steak tartare while we're there, and I'd be particularly interested in game (we don't see much of it here in Boston).
Also--an aside--I'm preparing for subzero (Fahrenheit) temperatures, but is that overkill?
