TiGeorge's Chicken

If you live in the downtown area, or around Echo Park, or even silverlake, you must check out TiGeorge's chicken. It's at 309 N. Glendale Blvd, phone is 213-353-994. It is open Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. I'd driven by the place a dozen times and finally coming back from the gym, hunger struck and my curiosity had to be sated (in addition to my appetite.) Outside there's a big sign that says "Haitian Cuisine." I had no idea what to expect. What I got was the most delicious chicken I've had in town. George marinates it in some mysterious sauce, roasts it, then re-heats it. Result is an enormously flavorful, fork-tender bird that you can't quite compare to jerk chicken; It's something rather different and special. George, the proprietor, is quite garrulous and possibly somewhat mad, but his passion is part of the seasoning of these delicious birds. The sides of rice and beans, the peculiar haitian dish of acra, a strange mysterious fritter doused in a sauce made of olive oil, lime, with a screaming high note of habenero -- all are good. On Saturdays, conch, goat and pork are the specials. Haven't tried them yet, but I'm going to soon. A must for chowhounds!
