We visited Tierras Mexicanas this Monday and had a most disappointing dinner... in total contrast to a previous evening where the meal was just fantastic... Besides the margaritas, nothing was very outstanding, the ceviche was "good", the rest very blase.
Margaritas: While the regular with salt was it's usual outstanding rendition, we both sampled the frozen lime marg and it was just that much better. Both with salt rim.
Guacamole... While probably passable, it was just a shadow of the previous trip here. Lacking in cilantro, with far fewer "stout" pieces of avocado (much more mashed this time around)... The GF noted that it was served on a lettuce leaf this time rather than directly in the stone mortar. Made us think, as other dishes, that a totally different cook was on duty this evening.
Papa Rellena... this just can't be the same dish we had barely a month ago... virtually no flavor. Nice ingredients but no discernable seasoning... Bland, nothing... Also this time it was served (as advertised on the menu) in a crispy potato basket which we would have certainly remembered but did not have, at least to this degree on previous dinner.
Ceviche... While the shrimps were fresh enough for this dish, it's just a fresh, simple taste, nothing remarkable. What was a bit annoying was the presentation in a large soup bowl... almost looked like "ceviche soup" rather than a mound of marinated shrimp as you might have in Central America. When you're finished you have this large bowl of lime juice, etc. remaining...
Al Pastor Taco... looks great but absolutely no flavor... very well prepared but... bland to the max. Never had such tasteless al pastor.
Veggie Taco.... somewhat more flavor but compared to dishes that were virtually tasteless.
Fried plantains with garlic dipping sauce were quite tasty....
Overall very disappointing... GF swears never to return, I'm not so harsh, will definitely try again but probably towards the weekend when I assume the A-team cook will be on duty.
Rarely have experienced such "night and day difference" in such short period of time.
