Wow...This used to be one of my favorite places, but I am so disappointed in our experience last night that I might never go back.
The food, as always, was good.
The service was awful. The amount of time we spent waiting for service was terrible. OK...I have a pet peeve about my water glass being empty, and I drink a bunch during a meal, but I had to ask repeatedly to have my water glass filled. It just sat empty on the table as staffer after staffer blew right by.
The desert menus were dropped off and we waited nearly 1/2 an hour (in an almost empty dining room) to order a couple of cups of coffee and to ask for the bill.
To add insult to an already awful experience, the corkage fee rose drastically since the last time we brought our own (was $15, now is $35!). This is just too damn steep for a "bistro". When we asked the Maitre D' if anything could be done, he said: "I did you a favor, we have on of those wines on the menu".
The wine in question was a pretty decent 2001 Burgundy. While the wine we brought was the "same", it was 11 years more mature. Excuse me if that sounds snobbish, but I expect that the Maitre D' would appreciate the difference here, even if he wouldn't "cut us a break".
Maybe we were at fault for assuming that things had not changed so drastically here, but I am annoyed nonetheless. This place just dropped a notch down my list of favorites. I will think twice before returning...
