Thyme Square, Bethesda--what was I thinking?

We went there a couple of years ago and liked it. Have things changed that much there, or have my tastes changed that much? Should have known when we walked into a place that was only half full on a Saturday night at 8:00.

Partner had a terrible pumpkin ravioli appetizer that was a mixture of every food trend over the past 10 years. I had a mushroom leak soup that was so weak, near flavorless (even partner didn't like it, which says a lot). Partner had a halibut dish (served with pineapple salsa on top, on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes--again, weird mixture of food trends over past 5-10 years. Who would do pineapple salsa paired with garlic mashed potatoes?!). Weird, sweet sauce in pool around it. I had a mediocre grilled calamari on mixed greens salad--sweet dressing, bluh.

Dessert (why did we bother? we weren't sure, but felt oddly compelled to go forward) was a split coconut poundcake with banana ice cream and chocolate syrup. Ice cream was sweet (not much else in the way of flavor), pound cake stale and chocolate syrup seemed surprisingly like the stuff I get from Hershey's.

All this (plus a few drinks) for $91, tax and tip included. I've learned my lesson.
