Went here for breakfast last weekend and wanted to post a quick recommendation. The first thing to notice is that they've nailed the decor in this very small, yet quaint space (formerly Jay's Cafe). The owner's artist wife is responsible for the bright, Latin-themed colors and trimmings adorning the cafe, providing the perfect island escape from a MN winter. We were also impressed by the down-home feel of the place, chatting and joking with the owner/head-chef Tony.
The Island Eggs Benedict is served over conch fritters and fresh spinach with creole hollandaise. These fritters can also be ordered separately as appetizers for lunch and dinner, served with banana ketchup & pickapeppa remoulade...wow. The fritters were very good-- not overly fried, well-seasoned, and the right amount of chewiness that did not detract from the fritter, but reminded you these are actually snails.
We also tried Caribe Eggs Benedict (also topped with creole hollandaise), which is served over curried chick peas and rotti, producing an India-meets-Caribbean-meets-American bruch experience.
Also sampled the Sweet Potato Pancakes. Topping them with fresh mango cubes was a nice tropical twist, although they lacked something overall.
Breakfast menu items that were enticing and will guarantee a return trip: Cuban pork hash, and Rundown (coconut and crab stew!) with poached eggs. Also looking forward to a return trip to try lunch/dinner.
All in all, a great dining experience-- great service, attractive decor, solid menu offerings. Can't wait to go back!
