Thrilled about Shimizu Sushi!

JJ | Feb 20, 2005 10:01 AM

My favorite Sushi restaurant closed and I was seriously depressed. I won't eat sushi anywhere b/c of risk of bad quality. Last night was my second time at Shimizu on 51st between 8th and 9th. The quality is really very good and the pieces they give you are nice! The cooked food is delicious, too. My friend doesn't eat raw fish and she loved her duck appetizer and everything else she had. All the dishes are beautifully prepared and some are served with their own special condiment(seared tuna). Did I mention the sashimi? They have expensive toro(delicious) along with medium toro. I had unbelieveable kompachi(sp). The toro scallion rolls are delicious. The spider rolls are fat and nice. The place is affordable too. I usually order ala carte, but I couldn't ignore the value of the combination plates listed on the menu. If you are in need of great quality sushi at affordable prices, please go. This place is brand new and they're not getting foot traffic due to the non-hip location. But Japanese do go. When the restaurant's busy, that's who's there.
