there was a bit of chatter last week on maremma. i ended up their friday night for an early pre-theater bite. as a fan of beppe, i was curious about cesare carella's effort here.
space is bright and cheery - full of fiestaware and spaghetti western film posters.
the food is not so bright and cheery - quite average.
highlight was the papardelle in chocolate-wild boar sauce. the pasta itself was done to perfection and sauce well balanced. didn't really notice the chocolate/espresso infusion - just gave it a little oomph.
also shared the octopus salad which was ok. a monkfish special was tough and chewy and the free range chicken bland and dry.
gelato was nice for desert - 3 tiny scoops - mint chip was amazing and i've already forgotten the other 2 because the mint chip was so good.
i may go back just to sit at the bar for that papardelle though.
