I Stayed in your great city for the first time this weekend. I am visiting from Michigan. We spent much of the last three days and two evenings eating in and around Portland, and I wanted to say it was, without exception, some of the best dinig exeriences I've ever had!
On Friday evening we were suppoed to have had dinner at the Joel Palmer House, but had to switch to Tina's in Dundee. It was a lovely, casual dinner with some amazing wines that our host had pre-arranged for. The conversation centered on the area restaurants use of local ingredients, and the burgeoning wine industry in the Northwest.
Saturday am we had breakfast at the Original Pancake House on Barbur Blvd. There was quite a wait, but it was worth it. The pancakes were incredible! I also couldn't shut up about my orange juice, and how perfect the bacon was;(I always have to beg for "crisp", I was informed that was the norm here). I could easily eat breakfast there every day!
Dinner last night was at Carlyle on NW Thurman with an expanded group. Once again, our host brought some very special local wines; Rombauer(?) I'm not the wine guy of the group. At any rate, really amazing stuff. This restaurant was delightful. Eveyone kept wanting to eat off of everyone elses plate! Truely delicious food, and beatifully presented. We did end up sharing several desserts (which was fun), and these were also exceptional.
I have compiled a list of places to catch next time. Any comments would be appreciated.
