The best Thai food in LA...is in Long Beach. A restaraunt called Tantalizingly Thai has recently opened in Long Beach (on Carson, just off the 605). It's a small, unassuming place with unbelievably fresh and tasty Thai food. I've been eating Thai food since my Dad came back from being stationed in Thailand in 1970 with loads of recipes he'd learned while there. I've tried Thai restaurants all over LA but haven't found anything that compares with this. The ingredients are fresh and it shows in the flavors. Try the fresh spring rolls - fresh mint, basil, onion, garlic, cilantro, shrimp, lettuce, lime all rolled up into a spring roll that will give you more flavor and aroma than you'd thought possible. Best pad thai I've ever had. Great tom kha kai, larb, green beans with chili paste, mango w/ sticky rice...I could go on endlessly. My previous fave Thai food was Keo's in Honolulu, which may still be better...but it's a five hour plane flight away. This is in greater LA. Try it - you'll never want a meal from pretenders like Chan Dara again.
