As something of a State Fair buff (been to most in the middle USA) I had one big one missing having never been to the Texas State Fair in Dallas.
That was rectified yesterday and I must say everything about the fair was on a grand scale . . . apart from the grub. Holy cow, there were more and better choices in Huron SD by far.
I was expecting smoldering bbq pits full of luscious brisket; chicken fried steaks the size of Big Tex's kerchief; menudo stands; German sausage on a stick; gulf seafood; on and on.
But what I found was . . . zippo, nada, a virtual wasteland of anonymous food vendors none of whom seemed to be in any way gifted chefs or cooks. I did try a cajun place but the item I wanted (on a very short menu) Boudain link they did not have.
I thought otherwise the fair was very well worth a visit but (UNKNOWN!) I left hungry. And I don't think I left any stone unturned, but if I did let me know in case there's a next time. Thanks.
