Ten Tables- Solid Mid-Week Meal

I know that some others on this board have had suboptimal experiences at Ten Tables (JP, Centre St.), but last night, a friend and I had a great meal all around.

The details:

Called Monday for the Wednesday 7 pm res...we were a little early and they very nicely seated us ahead of time.

Wednesdays are the days when the prix fixe of $25 is in effect (app, entree and dessert of your choosing); my dinnermate, a vegetarian, was pleased that they offered a vegetarian tasting menu (four courses including two apps, a special lasagna, and dessert).

Food arrived hot (the rash of luke-warm food elsewhere these days has left me, uh, cold).

Me: Flatbread with caramelized onions in a tomato sauce with heirloom tomatoes and goat cheese.
Verdict: Delish.
Dinnermate: Butternut squash soup with local hubbard, caramelized nuts and maple syrup.
Verdict: DIVINE.

She also had the mixed green salad (which was fresh-tasting and hearty).

Me: red-wine braised duck legs, with cranberries and
swiss chard. The meat fell right off the bone and the skin was crisp.
Verdict: Delish squared.
Dinnermate: Lasagna. I didn't taste it but she seemed to like it- the layers were crisp and it wasn't a traditional lasagna.
Verdict: She liked it.

Me: The chocolate-mousse with pistachios.
Verdict: Great.
Dinnermate: Brioche french toast with homemade vanilla ice cream.

She had the Riesling(8/glass) and I had the Pinot Noir(7.25/glass); both lovely.

The two prix fixe + wine +tip was $80.
It was a nice, not-rushed time. The food was delicious. I have no complaints about the service and the waitstaff offered a rec. on wine, so I was happy.

It was a sweet, low-key mid-week treat for both of us!
