Thought I'd give a quick shout out to a few places I visited in Calgary.

Ten Foot Henry: loved this place. I shared a crab dish, tuna tartare, a cauliflower dish, the cacio e pepe pasta and decadent butterscotch pudding topped with sponge toffee with my cousin. Definitely will return.

Chicken shawarma in a pita at Shawarma and Falafel City at 1245 Kensington Road in Kensington. Completely different spices than the shawarma I've tried in Ottawa, TO, and Montreal. Big serving. Paprika House at 555 11th ave SW. Delicious pork goulash soup, cucumber salad and palacsinta with cottage cheese and sour cherries. 2 of the tables were speaking Hungarian while I was there.

Old standards
Garrison Pub. Dry ribs and salt and pepper wings are hard to find in ON, so that's what I ordered. And fried calamari. Nice local. http://www.garrisonpub.com

Higher Ground. Kensington is changing, and I was happy to see that Higher Ground was the same as it was 20 years ago . I enjoyed a chai latte.

My meals in Calgary usually include a few greasy spoons and chains. Not places that most Chowhounds seek out. This time, ended up with ginger beef at the Market Mall food court, an Alberta Beef dip at Humpty's, and a grilled cheese sandwich at Phil's. All decent for what they are.

Had a nice lunch at Crazyweed Kitchen in Canmore. That place always hits the spot. We had prawn and fish cakes.

Had some drinks and mushroom fondue at the Grizzly House for old time's sake in Banff (really that means stuff, batter and fry your own mushrooms with 4 different rich fillings), then a roasted eggplant dish and a pizza at The Bison. I was underwhelmed by the food at the Bison. I think I'd choose Saltlik for an upscale meal in Banff next time.
