Went to Tasty Dumpling last night thanks to Chowhound. Had two orders of dumplings: fried pork and chive and boiled chicken and mushroom. Both were very good. I think the fired dumplings were better than the ones at Fried Dumpling, though not by much. The boiled dumplings were delicious with a not too thick wrapper that some chewiness but was not rubbery (probably would have become rubbery if I didn't eat the dumplings in about 2 minutes). The filling was very flavorful and a nice change from the pork and chive.
Feeling a little hungry still, I decided to splurge and spend a whopping 1.75 on a "pancake with beef". I had no idea what to expect but was most pleasantly surprised. What came out was very similar to a banh mi. It was a wedge of thick fried bread (with scallions, but more bread-y than a scallion pancake)sliced in half and filled with some sort of cured beef, carrots and cilantro. Although there was some gristle in the beef, it was delicious, especially when you added hot sauce and the soy sauce/vinegar mixture. Do they have this at Fried Dumpling?
