We went to the new Taste Restaurant in Olney this past Saturday night and had a wonderful meal. This restaurant in a strip center at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Route 108 took over the space previously held by Quiznos. The inside is attractive with an open kitchen and bar which is separated from the dining room by attractive glass panels. Once inside you quickly forget the location and could just as easily be in a downtown DC new restaurant. The restaurant is attractive. Only downside is that it is loud. The restaurant specializes in Tapas and Meeze. We had reservations and were seated promptly upon arrival. The bar and restaurant was packed at 730PM on a Saturday. Quickly a plate of flat breads and flavored hummus was placed in front of us. Everything we ate was delicious. We started with drinks and the highlight was the Subline Martini made with Pear Vodka, cucumber juice, fresh lime juice and julienne cucumber garnish, which was light fresh and sooooooo goood!. We had saganaki- breaded kasseri cheese flameed with ouzo at tableside, followed by a good greek salad and an even better wilted spinach salad. The eggplant dip followed and was delicious. We had the meatballs in a tomato sauce which was good but not as good as the braised lamb stew. Both the fried calamari and the scallops over wild mushroom risotto were perfect. For dessert we had the baklava which was as good as I have ever had and the fried dough with honey. The owner came over to talk. I had just watched a Bobby Flay Moussakka throwdown on TV and asked him why it wasn't on the menu. He said they will soon add it and he was nice enough to send us home with servings of moussakka and pastisika they had cooked for the staff. we had it yesterday and both were delicious. Another great addition to the rapidly expanding Olney restaurant scene. They are currently open for dinner only but there are plans to open for lunch shortly. We will definitely go back!
