Have any hounds had the idiotically frustrating experience of having friends/acquaintances BEG for a recipe, only to find out that these folks did NOT follow it--made a few amendments (mostly out of concern for convenience/cheapness)--and then were surprised or disappointed by the results?
Two notable cases:
An Asian cold noodle recipe which calls for sesame oil, and they use corn oil instead--"What's the difference?"
A blue cheese salad dressing recipe which calls for white wine vinegar, but they substitute red wine vinegar with the assertion, "They taste the same."
I don't want to sound like a snob or a compulsive or anything, but good grief: I don't know whether to laugh or to cudgel these folks about their heads and shoulders.
