Went to another family owned Mexican restaurant in South SF. This place has you order from a counter, then you pick a table/bench to sit while you wait for the runner to deliver your food. Many people also do take out. They have your typical Mexican food menu along with some "specials" that they only serve on Friday and the weekend: Birria Estilo Jalisco (BBQ goat Jalisco style), Pozole (pork soup with hominy) and Menudo (beef tripe soup).
Today I tried an especial written on a bright orange card on the wall which said "Buche." After asking, the guy at the counter said it was pork belly. He then recommended that if I get the buche platos (plate) to get half carnitas and half buche. "Very popular that way, mixed together. Also if you don't really like the buche, then you just pick and eat the carnitas." I deferred to his suggestion and ended up with a humungous plate of the meats, rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and a small tray with a stack of five fresh corn tortillas. The meat was slightly fatty (of course) and the texture, saltiness/body, did mix well with the carnitas.
My coworkers got tacos and burritos which they also seemed to enjoy (they've been there many times).
