Ok AOC is the crowning glory here (and Cobras & Matadors)
is good too. Recently went to two newish "small plates" restaurants.

PRIMITIVO IS GREAT!
One is Primitivo on Abbot Kinney in Venice -- friendly waitstaff,
crowded but fun, shabby chic West Village feel, candlelight. Great
food like quail stuffed with chorizo, sauteed mushrooms, banana
brulee cake with homemade chocolate hazlenut ice cream.

MINIBAR IS AWFUL!
The other restaurant I tried Minibar, in North Hollywood, I hope
dies a small painful death. I will concede to a couple of good items:
steak skewers, some OK butterfly shrimp. But overpriced and
decorated in 70's ugly of the moment hipness with dumb-ass
Keane paintings (the girls with the big eyes). OVERPRICED, TOO
SMALL PORTIONS EVEN FOR TAPAS,THEY DON'T EVEN GIVE YOU BREAD.
THEY SERVE FOUR SLABS OF TIRED IMPORTED CHEESE ON A PLATE THE
SIZE OF A GUTENBERG BIBLE.

MINIBAR's MOST AWFUL elements:
1. Hot Chocolate Soup -- the dumbest, most overpraised dessert (see
recently LA Weekly piece on hot chocolate). Basically a pot of that Chantico swill from Starbucks, supposedly served with marshmellows and almond biscotti (in fact you get one of each and not for dipping, they just throw it in a bowl). Then you're stuck with a pot of this crap
and you're supposed to just slurp it with a spoon. Basically a chocolate
fonDONT.

2. THE HOST -- if you can call him that. Tall, African-American, glasses,
the rudest stupidest lame ass Mr Blackwell meets the door guy at Studio 54 (in the 70s!). Didn't even greet us, turned his back to us when we said we had a reservation. Only apologized because his boss made him. Hello, this is North Hollywood, not Monaco. FIRE THIS GUY!!!

AND BOYCOTT MINIBAR!
