This afternoon I need to get my hands on a couple dozen good, hand made tamales. Preferably with rajas, no meat. Yesterday I went in a vain search for the maroon van (which, BTW was in its regular spot Saturday am, albeit without the food and with a sign stating in Spanish that the crew was in front of a church somewhere on Sacramento) or a reasonable substitute, but came up empty. Noticed a place on 18th claiming (in English) to have the "best tamales in Pilsen." It looks like too slick of an operation for that to be true, however. Save your rec that I but some good masa out the back door of a tortilleria or get some at La Guadalupena and make my own. I have time constraints. Thanks for your quick and thoughtful responses, all.
