In the never-ending search for good tamales, I slowed down and pulled over when I spotted the Catering 3 Marias cart parked on the sidewalk next to the Walgreens on N. Sanborn Road today. It offers tamales (pork, chicken, cheese/chili), elotes, and champurrado from 4:30pm to 9:30pm.
I took home a small champurrado ($1.50) and a pork tamal ($1) to sample. Both were okay, but just average. The champurrado was rather bland, needing more sugar and chocolate. The masa of the tamal was well-worked with lard for flavor and smooth texyure, but the medium-spicy filling was sparse.
The hunt continues.
