Mr CF and I finally made it to Tallent with the one little cookiefiend who hadn't been yet - and there is now one more person sharing the Tallent love with us.
We had an excellent dinner!
Summer Vegetable Salad - Capriole Goat Cheese and Roasted Garlic Crouton, Lime Basil Vinaigrette: perfect on a hot summer evening. Radishes, tomatoes, and squash sliced and layered over a garlicy toast.
Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad - Feta Cheese, Tarragon, Mint, Champagne Vinaigrette: uhh... some more please! Perfect tomatoes!
Fois Gras Poutine - House-made Frites, Goat Cheese, Chanterelle and Sweet Corn Gravy: very, very rich and very, very good. Everything was delicious together.
McCullough's Sweet Corn Soup - Crispy Chanterelle Mushrooms, White Truffle Popcorn - I don't think words can do justice to this... it was amazing. The truffled popcorn kicked it right over the edge into ridiculously good.
Mussels - BBC Ale MariniÃ¨re Sauce, Lemon Pepper Fries: a big hit with everyone and restored Mr CF's faith in mussels - the last ones he had weren't so good.
Gunthorpe Farms Pork Chop - Summer Beans, Onion Rings, Tomato Gravy: three at the table had this, three at the table were very happy. Wonderful pork chops.
Indiana Ribeye - Roasted New Potatoes, Chopped Summer Vegetable Salad, Blue Cheese: our youngest had this but he said it just wasn't as marvelous as the pork (or my dish - more on that in a min) but still great... then he discovered the corned beef chunks/bits in the bottom of the dish! Loved it!
I had the 'soul food special'. I won that night - hands down. Jambalaya with duck and chicken confit. Loaded with duck and chicken, it was delicious. A bit of heat and highly, yet perfectly, spiced, tender rice... amazing. Amazing!
Poppyseed Angel Food Cake French Toast - Local Honey Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Vanilla Peaches - dessert for one of the younger cookiefiends and the Blueberry tart for Mr CF and I.
So good - all of it.
I want to go back today... and tomorrow... and the next day.
