Talked about restaurants this afternoon with my future mother-in-law, who has been coaching me (when I have some time, not often) on all the special family recipes.
While we were talking about the secrets of the oyster dressing stiffened with ground beef and the green beans parboiled with salt pork, I asked about her favorite restaurants. She surprised me when she said that her all-time favorite was a seafood place now out of business named Jager's, that had been on Elysian Fields Avenue. I gathered that this place was sort of a relic of pre-World War II New Orleans.
All Mama Gina spoke of regarding the menu - and she was vague - was seafood, boiled and fried, and a fantastic stuffed artichoke. Does anyone else remember this place, special dishes and when it finally closed down?
