has anyone been to takari thai? i went there today and had a delicious meal.
i had red curry (strong flavors, perfect balance, aromatic and sweet -- not spicy enough) which was really good. a lot of care went into the cooking and ingredient selection -- the basil was really tasty, the chicken was good, not overcooked or undercooked. it was cooking with some depth.
i got yum squid to go and snuck a couple bites on the way home. the squid was absolutely perfectly cooked -- completely soft and cevichelike -- and, well, my wife and i couldn't wait until dinnertime to eat the whole thing. hot spicy, sweet, delicious.
the balance was perhaps a bit too sweet but for me it was in the beautiful zone for thai. a rare and wonderful thing, where you enter your flow state eating and time stops.
the place is kind of tucked into a mini-mall area near the elmhurst R stop. there's a largish chinese grocery there (well stocked produce area!) as well as some other interesting looking restaurants (a branch of penang malaysian, and some other asian restaurants).
the menu is less adventurous and seemingly less authentic (like i would know, right) than sripraphai. i just have the take-home menu with me, which isn't complete -- the menu you get on the inside of the restaurant is, i think, more comprehensive than the one on the outside.
