Thanks so much for your suggestion to use Taix for my downtown vicinity, tight-budget private dinner spot! For around 45 people, we'll be able to provide very decent food and even a glass or two of wine in a private room without going too much over what we'd planned. We'll even get sherbet!!
(for the other planners out there, i'll include details: group lunch starts at 15.95/pp...includes bread, salad, veg, potato, entree, sherbet, coffee or tea -- some choices are roast chicken, coq au vin, beef bourguignon; dinners start at 17.95/pp and include the above plus relish tray and soup. they have 5 banquet rooms, from 20 to 200 people.)
I was in there over the weekend and saw that to celebrate their 78 years in business, they have a month-long special (through August): their roast chicken dinner is 8.95 Mon-Fri... not quite the 75 cent deal their 75th anniversary was, but that's ok...
I'm still thinking about the split pea soup... I'll definitely be making stops in there for soup to take home. The one vegetarian entree was surprisingly good - not the usual insipid pasta primavera, the pasta monegasque was penne with lots of tomato, basil, olive oil and garlic - simple but good. Fiance was happy with his steak frites. But the soup...!! I've driven by many times, but never gone in... I'm happy to add a new spot to the list.
Thanks again, you've helped a fairly stressed bride!! :)
